Gandalf The Grey - The Grey Wizard Am I
Fashioning himself after a Tolkien figure (with a cape and hat no less), this NYC wizard cut a rare DIY folkrock trip that's been known for decades on the private press scene. A spellbinding combination of laid back acid folk rock & psychedelic fuzz guitar,of the classic 1972 privately pressed album from the New York wizard aka, Chris Wilson.
Originals sell for over $1000! The songs are jangly folk-pop, mixing Tolkien mythology with big-city observationals. Througout the record, Wilson maintains a keen sense of structure and drama, adding little modulations here and there to keep things interesting.
He made a rare pre-LP 45 under his real name (Chris Wilson) and even a comeback 45 in the 1990s.

Paisley Pop Pye Psych (& other colors), 1966-1969
Fans of Brit psych-pop groups such as Tomorrow, The Creation, and Honeybus will not be disappointed with this collection. Although there are a couple of well-known groups represented here, this disc contains mostly one-off singles from the Pye label circa 1966-1969. All in all, a very tasty sampling of the swirling musical colours from this evanescent era. General grooviness abounds with outstanding tracks such as The Uglys' "Quiet Explosion", Scrugg's "Lavender Popcorn", and The Montanas'"That's When Happiness Began". Trying to track down these singles on vinyl would be a very expensive proposition if they could be found at all.

Les Sinners - Les Sinners
This French Canadian act from Montreal, Quebec, made three good punk/psych albums and played between 1966-70. The origins of the band go back to 1965 when Guy, Lintton and Parizeau formed a rock'n'roll band called The Silver Spiders. After two months they became Les Sinners. Later in 1968 Guy departed to form La Revolution Français. It proved short-lived, but he went on to form a further trio with Jay Brown and Jean-Guy Durocher before departing to go solo with the Montreal-based Pumpkin Records.

101 Strings Orchestra - Astro Sounds From Beyond the Year 2000
Originally recorded in 1969, Astro Sounds was easy listening's response to psychedelic acid rock. Unlike all the previous 101 String albums, whose gentle, tuneful travelogues were suitable dinner music, when poor housewives ripped the shrink-wrap off this Pandora's Box of acid-laden rock, all hell broke loose! Fuzz-ed out guitars, heavy drums and strings, yes strings(!), all collided to create what has become one of the top cult classics of the psychedelic era. Even Goldmine recently listed Astro Sounds among the top wish-list "incredibly strange music" albums begging to be re-issued.
Here in all its B-movie, LSD party-sequence glory are songs like "Astral Freakout," "A Disappointed Love With A Desensitized Robot," "Trippin' On Lunar 07," and the futuristically titled "Where Were You In 1982?" Also featured as the rare bonus tracks "Karma Sitar", "Whiplash" (with real whip sound effects) and "Instant Nirvana."

The Folkswingers - Raga Rock
Jim Dickson called the group The Folkswingers and they recorded folk and bluegrass songs to cash-in on the current trends. Basically they kept the name for this 1966 album and tried to tackle another musical trend. It's interesting to note that World Pacific actually put out a Ravi Shankar sitar album in 1965.
Raga Rock unashamedly cashed in on the success of Ravi Shankar and the emerging use of the sitar in Western pop/rock (Beatles, Stones, Byrds), offering up instrumental versions of the latest cool hit sounds, many with fuzzed guitar, and all topped off with that exotic sound. The more obvious and successful choices for such treatment are here - Paint It Black, a regular on later "exploito" LPs of exotic-psych, Eight Miles High and Shapes Of Things. Also tackled (with varying success) are Norwegian Wood, The Association's Along Comes Mary, Outsiders' Time Won't Let Me, Kicks, Hey Joe, Homeward Bound and The Turtles' Grim Reaper Of Love. Their own Raga Rock is the finale - although it starts off rather pedestrian, it's soon spiralling off into Eight Miles High territory, but comes back to earth way too soon.
A couple of the names on the Raga Rock release should also strike a chord - Larry Knechtel (later of Bread) and Hal Blaine were part of the elite corps of L.A. session musicians known as The Wrecking Crew.
