Victor Bockris: "January to April 1966 was the golden period for the Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol. After the psychiatrist's convention, Warhol shot a scintillating film of the band rehearsing at the Factory, SYMPHONY OF SOUND, which remains the single best visual record of the Velvet Underground. Velvet Underground and Nico aka 'A Symphony in Sound' (Andy Warhol, 1967)
Featuring: The Velvet Underground & Nico, Ari Boulogne (Nico's son); appearances by Gerard Malanga, Billy Name, Stephen Shore, Andy Warhol, the New York Police, and others.
"The Velvet Underground and Nico is a portrait of the band, recorded during a practice session at the Factory; apparently shot in January 1966, it shows the goup rehearsing for what was probably their opening at the Film-Makers' Cinematheque in February. The music is an instrumental number; Nico, the German singer and actress whom Warhol introduced into the band, sits on a stool and bangs a tambourine, while her son Ari plays on the floor at her feet. The two reels contain a great deal of wild camerawork and psychedelic zooming, which indicates that this film was intended for exhibition, probably in double-screen, behind the Velvet Undergound on stage. It is easy to imagine how this footage might have looked projected in a large, crowded theater in an atmos phere of deafining music, wild dancing, and strobe lighting.
As if to authenticate the film's countercultural status, the second reel documents the arrival of the New York City police during the filming, apparently in response to a telephoned complaint about the noise level at the Factory. After a disarmingly self-conscious cop appears on screen to adjust the amplifier, the rehearsal is stopped, and the camera pulls back to show the deep space of the studio-one of the few documentary of the Factory in Warhol's films-where Warhol is seen talking with the police while the Velvets, Gerard Malanga, Billy Name, and other Factory regulars mill around."

NOV. 3 - 7, 1966: THE EPI TOURS THE MIDWEST.
The Exploding Plastic Inevitable show did a short tour of the Midwest, with Paul Morrissey acting as road manager. Some of the venues paid less than $1,000 a night. Nico was now sleeping with John Cale. Warhol did not accompany them on this trip. From the end of October through mid-December the EPI played various dates in the Midwest, the East Coast and Canada

Sunforest recorded this splendid album in 1969. A unique compendium of UK acid folk with a Middle Age / Renaissance edge mixed with a popsike feel very typical from the era. A fab album for the lovers of the genre that comes in a very beautiful picture sleeve. It is similar in places to the Incredible String Band, Gryphon or Moonkyte with harpsichord and medieval arrangements mixing with electric and acoustic folk. This LP's opening track, 'Overture To The Sun', caught the attention of genius filmaker Stanley Kubrick, who got Sunforest to record it again for its inclusion on his 'A Clockwork Orange' movie soundtrack. Fans of this movie have now a great chance to listen to the original recording of this track. Also worth of special mention is the phenomenal funk vibe of 'Magician In The Mountain', which has made this LP become the object of desire of many a DJ and a samplerer, an original copy fetching over $ 500 in the collector's market.

Recorded by Andy Warhol just a week after the German actress Nico had arrived in America. This tape features what may have been the first musical collaboration between her and the Velvet Underground. The tapes feature many casual moments of unstructured jamming common to rock band rehearsals. Most of this material falls in line with what can be assumed to be influences of the key members; Older Blues, R&B, Rockabilly etc. However, there is one time on the tapes when either Lou Reed or Sterling Morrison can be heard playing the lead intro to "Day Tripper" by the Beatles. While this may seem like a standard today, it was a 4 month old song when the tape was made. On Track two, Lou Reed can be heard teaching lyrics to Nico while the rest of the band plays in the background. The lyrics are to the song "Venus In Furs." Track 11 features the whole band with Nico attempting to sing the song "There She Goes Again." They try several times to find a key that suits Nico's voice. Nico tries many times to vocalize lyrics that prove to be too fast for her broken English to master. These problems evidently were never solved, as the song appears on the first album with Lou Reed singing lead - not Nico.

Stereo Total is a Berlin-based French-German duo. Members are Françoise Cactus and Brezel ('pretzel') Göring (aka Friedrich von Finsterwalde, born Friedrich Ziegler). Their music can be described as a humorous mix of Synth-Pop, New Wave, Electronica, Punk, and pop music. Some of their tracks are playful, low-fi versions of pop/rock/soul songs. In the same vein, they made a pop version of Salt-N-Pepa's electro rap hit "Push It". Stereo Total are a truly multilingual band, singing usually in German, French, and English; as well as other languages such as Japanese, Spanish, or Turkish.
With influences ranging from French girlpop of the 60's, German cabaret, disco & 80's electropop, not to mention the omnipresent ghost of Serge Gainsbourg, Stereo Total are a tribute to all that has been best about pop music in the second half of the 20th century.

Máire Ní Bhraonáin, better known as Máire Brennan or Moya Brennan (born August 4, 1952, Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland), is a Celtic folk singer. She began her singing career when her family formed the band Clannad in 1970.
She is the eldest sister of the singer Enya, who was also briefly a member of Clannad in the early 1980s.

McKennitt's music has been officially classified as World/New Age/Celtic music even though it contains aspects and characteristics of music from around the globe and can be found classified as Folk music in some record stores.
Before McKennitt composes any music, she engages in massive research on a specific subject which forms the general concept of the album. Before creating Elemental and Parallel Dreams she travelled to Ireland for inspiration from the country's history, geography and culture. The album The Mask and Mirror was preceded by research in Spain where she engaged in studying Galicia, a Celtic section of Spain, along with its abundant Arabic roots, thus creating an album including elements of Celtic and Arabic music.
According to the liner notes of her latest album, An Ancient Muse was inspired primarily by travels among and reading about the various cultures along the Silk Road.
McKennitt is often compared to Enya, but is more grounded in traditional and classical invocations using literary works as sources of lyrics and springboards for interpretation such as "The Lady of Shalott" by Lord Tennyson, "Prospero's Speech" (the final soliloquy in William Shakespeare's The Tempest), "Snow" by Archibald Lampman, William Blake's "Prospero, intended for a dramatic piece of King Edward the fourth", and "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes.
