Grateful Dead - Watkins Glen Soundcheck 1973-07-27

This rehearsal was recorded in Watkins Glen Grand Prix Raceway outside of Watkins Glen, New York on July 27, 1973, where The Allman Brothers Band, The Band, and the Grateful Dead performed on the next day.
Although the concert was scheduled to start on July 28th, thousands of music fans were already at the concert site on the 27th. Robbie Robertson of the Band requested to do a soundcheck, but was perplexed that so many people were sitting in front of the stage. Bill Graham allowed the soundcheck with the crowd of people in front, and the Band ran through a few numbers to the delight of the audience. The Allman Brothers Band did their soundcheck next, playing "One Way Out" and "Ramblin' Man". The Grateful Dead's legendary soundcheck turned into a two set marathon, featuring their familiar tunes such as "Sugaree", "Tennessee Jed" and "Wharf Rat". They also performed a unique jam that was eventually included on their retrospective CD box set So Many Roads (1965-1995).

Boy, that was one hell of a show!

A great weekend with my college pals, Bruce, Neil, Don, Paul and the rest.

Basically my last hurrah before entering the real world, too.

What a long strange trip, indeed!

Yes please post more GD!!! Gratefully yours- TomInPhilly

What Goes Around

Hi! I was at the Watkins Glen "Summer Jam" and am grateful (no pun intended) to get my hands on what I saw lo those many years ago! I've found another site that offers .flac files, too, but I think it all sounds about the same quality-wise.
Many inaccuracies in what I've found on the web about the soundcheck. Truth is, The Band only did half of "WS Walcott's Medicine Show" and walked off. Pissed off everyone there after the Allmans had played for 90+ minutes, and the Dead, for over two hours.
Thanks again!!

CHEERS MATE, HAVE PUT IT ON MP3 AND CAN LISTEN TO IT WALKING DOWN THE STREET.
THAT INTERNEARCHIVE.ORG THING ALSO HAS DOWNLOADS OF DEAD YOU HAVETO HIT 'OTHER COPIES' TO GET THE FREE ONES TAPED BY THE AUDIENCE. THEY HAVE THOUSANDS OF SHOWS BUT NOT WEMBLY ARENA, LONDON, 1,11,90. IF ANYONE HAS IT I WOULD LOVE IT.
FREAKYPETE.

I have the whole show! All the bands soundchecks and stage performances...and they are real, as well as video footage (but it's all of a minute or so long.) Let me know if your interested in this. I do not sell this as it took me over 2 years to put together and from different sources all over the world. Plus being a dead fan and tape trader of LEGAL material only I promise this is legit.
